About me
I have always been passionate about people being able to access the healthcare that they deserve. I studied Biology at university in my late 20’s and went on to achieve a Masters degree in Biomedical Science. Prior to working in the birth industry, I was a medical writer in healthcare communications. The job never fulfilled my desire to help and support people, so I retrained as a birth worker.
Following the birth of my daughter I saw the need to support women and families through what can be a stressful time. From my perspective as an autistic person, I also became aware of the lack of understanding in the maternity services of the needs of neurodivergent pregnant women. I became interested in everything birth related and decided to answer the calling to birth work! I want to do everything I can to support parents through this journey and to help them navigate the healthcare system.
I have become increasingly passionate about providing care and support that is individualised to the birthing persons preferences and needs. We are all different and experience the world from our own unique perspective.
I spend most of my time with my family, and love watching my daughter and niece play together. I love reading fiction (mainly sci-fi, thrillers, and anything a bit weird) and non-fiction books about my favourite subjects (birth, neuroscience, psychology and the microbiome), going for walks, travelling, practicing yoga, playing board games, and curling up with my partner with a good film and snacks.
I have trained as a FEDANT accredited antenatal and early postnatal educator and hypnobirthing instructor with The Perinatal Academy, and as a breastfeeding peer supporter with the NHS. In my spare time, I volunteer with the NHS Infant Feeding Team in Stockport. I love to learn and continue to expand my knowledge simply because I love it but also so I can provide parents with the support they deserve. Recently I have completed trauma-informed care training with Make Birth Better and training in birth rights with Birth Rights UK.
I would be honoured to support you during your pregnancy and postpartum journey. If you have any questions please contact me and we can book in a time for a free chat.
