Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Do I need to attend with my partner?
You do not have to attend with your partner. I offer a discounted price for solo parents (please contact me for details). If you do have a birth partner it is extremely beneficial that they attend the classes with you to help them understand how best to support you and to help them feel prepared. Your birth partner can be anyone you choose such as your life partner, family member or a close friend.
When should I book antenatal classes?
You can book onto an antenatal course as soon as feels right for you. The most common thing to do is to book onto a course a few weeks in advance and to book onto a course that finishes roughly 4-8 weeks before your due date. However, there are no set rules and everyones circumstances are different. Please bear in mind that the size of my antenatal course classes are small (capped at 6 couples) so spaces are limited.
What if I’ve already had a baby?
I welcome parents onto the course who have already had a baby. It’s always useful to recap your memory or perhaps to learn something new for the second time around. You’ll also get to meet other expectant parents at a similar stage of pregnancy to yourself.
Are these classes suitable if I’m nervous about birth?
Absolutely. Learning about birth and understanding the different types of birth and how to navigate the materity system can help you feel more prepared and less nervous for birth. We will also cover ways in which you can manage anxieties during labour. I provide additional support outside of the classes so if you ever have any concerns or questions or just need a chat, I am here to support you and help you feel more confident.
How long is the course?
The course is split into 5 sessions and each is session is 2 hours with a break in the middle. The first session is slightly longer at 2 and a half hours so that we have time to meet each other and settle in at the beginning.
