Pregnancy & Antenatal Support in Stockport: Where can I meet other mums-to-be?
Pregnancy is a great time to start building a supportive community around you. Meeting other expectant parents and pregnant people can help you to feel connected and understood during pregnancy and creates a support network for when baby arrives. There are a variety of ways you can meet people in Stockport during pregnancy.
Positive Pregnancy Circles
Pregnancy circles are a lovely way to meet other mums-to-be. They offer a welcoming space for you to feel nurtured, informed, and confident throughout your pregnancy and as you prepare to meet your baby. Pregnancy circles help you to explore birth, pregnancy, and early parenthood through open conversations, shared experiences, and meaningful connection. They may involve guided discussions on a range of pregnancy and birth topics, journaling, and relaxing meditations. The lovely team at InspireHER in Hazel Grove, Stockport host a Positive Pregnancy Circle on the second Sunday of each month.
Pregnancy Yoga
Pregnancy yoga is a great way to keep fit, strengthen your body and calm your mind during pregnancy. It is a less strenuous form of yoga that is tailored to the pregnant body. Pregnancy brings incredible changes to your body, but it can also come with its fair share of aches, stiffness, and discomfort. As your baby grows, it's common to experience tension in the back, hips, and shoulders, along with reduced mobility as your body adapts to support your changing shape.
Prenatal yoga involves carefully adapted movements, stretching, and mindful breathing, and can help ease common pregnancy aches, improve mobility, and release built-up tension. The combination of movement and relaxation not only helps you feel more comfortable physically but also encourages you to slow down, reconnect with your body, and prepare mentally for birth. Whether you're completely new to yoga or have practised before, prenatal yoga provides a safe, supportive space to move in a way that feels good for you and your baby.
You may also see pregnancy yoga referred to as maternity yoga or prenatal yoga. If you’d like to give it a go here are a few classes in the Stockport area.

Pregnancy Pilates
Pilates is another way to keep fit and strong during pregnancy. As your baby grows and your body changes, Pilates can provide valuable support by strengthening the muscles that help stabilise your spine and pelvis. Focusing on gentle, controlled movements, pregnancy Pilates encourages better posture, balance, and body awareness while helping you move with greater ease. By building strength and supporting your changing body, it can contribute to a more comfortable and positive pregnancy experience. Less popular than yoga, there are fewer classes available and often you will find physiotherapists offer pregnancy pilates in a 1:1 appointment. However, Manchester Physio offer pregnancy pilates classes in the Manchester area so it may be worth contacting them if you’re interested.
Antenatal Drop-ins
I run a free antenatal drop-in at Stockroom on a monthly basis. This is a great opportunity to drop by with any questions about birth, babies and beyond or to learn more about how I can support you during pregnancy. As this is a drop-in you may also meet other expectant parents looking for support and connection during pregnancy.

Facebook groups
These can be a great way to make friends and find out about events in your local area. Have a search on Facebook and see if there are any pregnancy or mum/parent groups local to you. Stockport Bumps, Babies and Toddlers is a helpful Facebook group where you can find out about local support, classes, groups and events around the Stockport area. I've recently launched a Facebook group for pregnant people and expectant parents (Pregnancy & Birth Stockport). It's still in its early stages, but you're very welcome to join us. As the community grows I hope to create a supportive space where you can access reliable information about pregnancy and birth, ask questions, share experiences, and connect with other parents-to-be in the Stockport area who are at a similar stage of their journey.
Antenatal Classes
Antenatal classes are the perfect way to meet other expectant parents at a similar stage of pregnancy. Whether you’re looking to meet a lot of people or you’d prefer a smaller group where you can make meaningful connections, there’s an antenatal class that will suit you. I offer small group antenatal classes where you are able to access individual and personalised support in addition to meeting other expectant parents. If you’d like to know more or have any questions at all please contact me and I’d be happy to have a chat about what support might best suit you.

Although starting to build your community during pregnancy can be wonderful, don’t worry if this doesn’t happen during this time. Often parents are still working or struggle to find the time for themselves. Or they simply might not find people that they connect with. Many parents say they ‘find their people’ after they’ve given birth. Wherever you’re at on your parenthood journey there’re plenty of options available to help you feel supported and connected.
Pregnancy can be an emotional time but having a support network around you can help you to feel supported and prepared for birth and parenthood. If you are struggling mentally at any time please reach out to your midwife, doctor or a charity such as PANDAS. However you are feeling, there is always support available!
